noBody

The conceptual body as a case of artistic expression in visual arts has obvious connections and commonalities with the absent body, in some cases these concepts can be used as synonyms. The conceptual body in visual art includes works where the human body is depicted in any way, without directly depicting the body itself, conveying the human being and/or spirit. This can be done based on the help of signs, traces, less often feeling or intuition. Imagination fills the absent body based on personal experience, taking into account visible elements, references, moods. The observer identifies with the depicted imaginary body by interpreting and adapting relevant questions to himself, thereby identifying and believing in the work even more. A sensed body that is not directly visible in the work is more convincing to the viewer because it is easier to believe, it is sensed and anticipated. The Lithuanian term "Conceptual Body" in itself encodes the conceptual possibilities of expression in the etymological context. The conceptual body, perceived on the basis of personal experience, in other words interpretation, corresponds to the concept of an „Open work“ proposed by U. Eco. (2022-2024)
